To visit the landscapes behind many Spaghetti Westerns, head to the Tabernas Desert in Almería, Spain. The province’s film history includes Sergio Leone’s Dollars Trilogy, and three Western-themed visitor villages—Oasys MiniHollywood, Fort Bravo Texas Hollywood and Western Leone—offer different ways to explore it. These are preserved sets and attractions, not proof that every celebrated scene was filmed inside a park open to visitors today; check current schedules, tickets and access before you go.
Why Almería became a Spaghetti Western landscape
The Tabernas Desert is the heart of Almería’s Western-film identity: its dry, rugged terrain has served as a cinematic landscape, while surviving Western villages make the film history tangible. Andalusian tourism highlights Sergio Leone’s A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly in the province’s film story. The regional destination page also features the Tabernas Desert and a Sergio Leone Dollars Trilogy cinema route (Andalucía tourism).

A Junta de Andalucía professional guide reports that more than 300 Western films were made in the area during the 1960s and 1970s. Treat that as the guide’s historical figure; its publication date is not confirmed in the available material (Junta de Andalucía film-location guide).
Choose a Western village
Tabernas municipality identifies three distinct Western villages: Oasys MiniHollywood, Fort Bravo Texas Hollywood and Western Leone. Their film associations and visitor features differ, so choose based on the production story, set styles and activities that interest you. Confirm current offerings and opening arrangements with the operators or local tourism office before setting out.
#1 Best Overall
| Attraction | Film connection | What sources describe | Location information |
|---|---|---|---|
| Oasys MiniHollywood | The Almería Western Film Festival says the Western village was designed for Sergio Leone’s La muerte tenía un precio (1965), also known as For a Few Dollars More. | Festival tourism information describes live shows, stunt performers, can-can dancers, and film and carriage museums. These descriptions do not establish a daily schedule. | Festival information identifies the Oasys car park as the starting point for the PR-269 self-guided walk. Check current access and conditions. |
| Fort Bravo Texas Hollywood | The cited tourism listing describes the attraction but does not state a specific film connection. | Andalucía tourism describes American-style sets including a saloon, prison, shops, bank and stables, plus a Mexican-style area with a square, church and houses; it also mentions equestrian shows. Confirm current operation and activities directly. | Carretera N-340, km 468; listed as about 2 km from Tabernas and 25 km from Almería. |
| Western Leone | Tabernas municipality says the village was built for Sergio Leone’s Hasta que llegó su hora (1968), released internationally as Once Upon a Time in the West. | The municipal page lists shows, horse routes, a photo studio, souvenir shop and bar. Check whether these facilities and activities are currently available. | See the municipality’s visitor information for location and access details. |

If the film connection is your priority
Oasys is tied by the festival source to For a Few Dollars More; Western Leone is tied by the municipality to Once Upon a Time in the West. The sources cited here do not establish an equivalent named-film connection for Fort Bravo, so choose it for its described set areas and check with the operator for further production history.

If set architecture or activities matter most
Fort Bravo’s listed American and Mexican areas provide distinct Western-style streets and buildings. Oasys and Western Leone have source-described performances and other visitor features, but those descriptions are not guarantees of what will be running on your visit date. Ask each attraction about the current program rather than planning around an assumed show.
Explore the desert beyond the sets
The landscape itself is part of the visit. A Junta de Andalucía guide describes a 22-kilometre Wild West Route through the area. Separately, the Almería Western Film Festival lists PR-269, a self-guided desert walk beginning at the Oasys MiniHollywood car park. The available information does not establish that these are the same route, nor that either is accessible in every season or under all conditions. Check route status, weather and trail access before walking.

Festival tourism information also gives the Tabernas tourism office location and seasonal hours during the festival period. Those are festival-period details, not year-round opening times; consult the municipality or office for current visitor information (Almería Western Film Festival tourism).

- Check hours and admission: The cited sources do not provide a consistent, current comparison of park schedules or ticket prices. Verify dates, prices and show times directly with each attraction.
- Confirm transport: Fort Bravo’s listed distance is useful for orientation, but the sources do not establish current public-transport service. Plan how you will reach your chosen set and confirm the route before departure.
- Verify set access: A preserved film village is a visitor attraction, not a guarantee that a particular film location or set is open. Check which areas are accessible on your date.
- Check walking conditions: Confirm route access and trail conditions locally before attempting PR-269 or the longer Wild West Route.
For municipal visitor information and the three village listings, start with Tabernas municipality. For Fort Bravo’s listed position and set description, see Andalucía tourism.
